Plot twist: taking the photos is actually the easy part 😂

A lot of parents arrive expecting most of their newborn session to be spent in front of the camera.

In reality? A huge part of my job happens before I ever pick it up.

Settling.
Wrapping.
Reading your baby’s cues.
Getting them comfortable.
Waiting for those little arms and legs to relax.
And sometimes starting all over again because baby has decided we’re absolutely NOT doing that today 😂

And that’s completely normal.

I don’t expect a newborn to arrive asleep, stay asleep or happily move from one setup to another just because we’ve scheduled a photoshoot.

They’re babies.

Knowing how to settle them, when to keep going, when to change what I’m doing and when they simply need a little more time is a huge part of newborn photography.

So if you’re worried your baby “won’t cooperate” for their newborn photos…

They don’t need to.

That’s my job ❤️

Would I do it again? Absolutely. Would I recommend

Would I do it again? Absolutely.
Would I recommend it to everyone? Probably not 😂

Leaving a secure corporate career to build my own business came with some incredible highs… and some pretty uncomfortable lows.

There have been fully booked months and painfully quiet ones.

Times I’ve felt incredibly proud of what I’ve built, and times I’ve wondered what on earth I was doing.

Because I wasn’t just building a business.

I was building it through pregnancies, newborn days, sleepless nights, school drop-offs, sick days and all the ordinary chaos that comes with raising three children.

There were seasons where the business had to take a back seat because my babies needed their mum. And other seasons where I was editing late into the night, answering emails between everything else, or squeezing work into whatever pockets of time I could find.

I’ve had to learn how to be a business owner and a mum at the same time and I’ve never perfectly balanced the two.

But the goal was never to build a business at the expense of being there for my family.

It was to build a career that could grow alongside them.

And somewhere amongst all of that, I built something that’s mine.

A business that’s allowed me to be there for my family, photograph hundreds of other families, meet some incredible people and create a career I genuinely love.

The security of my old career was comforting.

But I don’t miss wondering, what if I’d actually given this a go?

Turns out, giving it a go changed my life.

And just like that… your baby becomes the big brot

Becoming a family of four is such a beautiful kind of change.

You’re welcoming this tiny new person into your world, while watching the little person who made you parents become something new too.

A big brother.

The hands that once seemed so tiny suddenly look enormous next to the baby’s.

The little boy who once had you all to himself now has someone else to love, protect, annoy, teach and grow up beside.

And somehow, your heart doesn’t divide between them.

It grows.

There will be so many firsts with this new baby. But there are also firsts happening for him.

The first cuddle.
The first kiss.
The first time he reaches for his little sibling.

The very beginning of a relationship they’ll carry through life.

Becoming a family of four isn’t just about meeting your new baby. It’s about meeting your first baby all over again… as a big brother ❤️

Right now, this is his whole world. That little f

That little face pressed into your shoulder, that spot right under your chin, that’s where he feels safest. It’s where the crying stops. Where his whole body settles. Where nothing bad can reach him.

He doesn’t know it yet, but this spot will stay with him for life.

It’s the same feeling he’ll be chasing at three when he’s had a nightmare and comes looking for you in the dark. At eight when he’s had a hard day and just wants to be close to you. At sixteen when he’d never admit he needs it, but still leans into a hug a little longer than he used to. Even fully grown, some part of him will still be looking for this exact feeling, the one that means safe.

It starts here. This tiny. This close.

And you’ll always be the place he comes home to ❤️

My first ever expo and I have so many feelings.

Weeks of preparation. Late nights. Moments of “what am I doing?” and “is this going to work?” And then Saturday morning arrived and I set up my stand and suddenly it was all very, very real.

Two days. Hundreds of families. Mums who are expecting, mums who have just had their babies, women who are quietly dreaming about starting a family one day. Every single conversation reminded me why I built this business and why I am still here 12 years later.

I got to introduce so many people to Theo, our birthweight bear, watch their faces as they tried to guess his weight and chat about what it means to hold onto this season of life before it slips through your fingers.

I am so full.

None of this would have been possible without the people who showed up for me this weekend. My husband, who believed in this before I did and gave up his weekend without a second thought. My beautiful friend Erin from @broadstreetfinance, who gave up her time to stand beside me and champion what I do. And Nadia from @captured_by_nadia, an incredibly talented photographer who gave her weekend to be part of my stand and all of my beautiful friends who helped me along the way! I am so grateful for all of you ❤️❤️❤️

Nothing pains me more than watching women skip the

Nothing pains me more than watching women skip their newborn photos because they don’t feel like themselves.

This isn’t about that.

It was never about your hair or your body or whether you feel “ready”. It’s about your baby one day being able to see how loved they were from the very first days of their life.

I’ve photographed over 1400 families and not one has ever told me they regret having these photos done. The regret only ever goes the other way.

You don’t need to feel camera ready. You just need to show up. I’ll take care of the rest.

Your first baby changes everything.

They make you a mum.
They make someone a dad.
They introduce you to a kind of love you never knew existed.

It’s the beginning of family traditions.
Weekend adventures.
Sleepless nights.
First smiles.
First cuddles.
First birthdays.

It’s the chapter where everything begins.

One day, there may be more little feet running through your home, more laughter around the dinner table, and your family may grow in ways you can’t yet imagine.

But you’ll only ever experience becoming a family of three once.

That’s why this season deserves to be remembered.

Not because it’s perfect.
But because it’s the moment your whole world changed forever. 🤍

Everyone waits for spring.

But winter quietly gives us everything we want in a family session.

The light is soft and flattering.

The earlier sunsets mean little ones don’t have to stay up past bedtime.

The cooler weather makes running, cuddling and playing together so much more comfortable.

And those cosy knits, earthy tones and layered outfits? They never go out of style.

But my favourite part isn’t the season.

It’s that families naturally gravitate towards one another.

Hands are held a little tighter.
Cuddles last a little longer.
And the connection in your images feels effortless.

If you’ve been waiting for the “perfect” time to update your family photos, this might just be it.

If I had a dollar for every time I heard this befo

If I had a dollar for every time I heard this before a session, I’d have a lot of dollars.

And I get it completely. At home, your baby sleeps. A lot. So it makes sense that you’d walk in, pop them down, take a few photos and be home in time for the next feed.

Here’s the reality.

Newborn sessions with me typically run between two and four hours. Not because anything is going wrong, but because everything is going right.

Your baby needs to be fed, settled and comfortable before I can even begin to move them into a pose. Then there’s the wrapping, the positioning, the warming of the studio, the settling in between setups. If they wake up, we stop. If they need a feed, we stop. If they just need a moment, we stop.

Because the only clock in my studio is your baby’s.

I work entirely at their pace. There is no rushing, no pushing through, no “let’s just get this shot.” Every single image in a newborn gallery is the result of patience, experience and knowing exactly how to read a baby who can’t tell you what they need.

I hear this almost every week. ‘My husband’s not really a photo person.’ And honestly? Neither are most of the dads who walk through my door. They come because she asked them to. They stand a little stiff at the start. They’re not sure what to do with their hands.

And then something happens, usually around the time I put that tiny baby into their arms, and the whole session changes. I show them the back of the camera and they start to fall in love with their photos. By the time we are finished the ordering appointment they are saying how much they love the photos.

Thats one of the best parts of my job!

I’ve been photographing families for twelve years.

I’ve been photographing families for twelve years. And one of the things I hear most from mums expecting their second baby is some version of the same fear.

How do I love two the same way I loved one?

When your first baby arrives, the whole world shrinks down to just them. Every bit of you goes to that one small person. And then when your second comes, you suddenly have to stretch that love in a direction you’ve never stretched it before. The guilt of it is real, even when the love is more than enough.

I thought about that when I was editing this gallery.

Because this mum? She is nailing it. Completely and utterly. I was lucky enough to photograph her little girl when she was born, and now here I was, back in the room, watching that same little girl step into her new role as a big sister.

That is not a small thing. That is everything.

When a family trusts me with their first baby and then calls me back for their second, I don’t take that lightly. It means something. And getting to watch this family grow, to see who they were when it was just the three of them and who they are now that they’re four, that is the part of this job that never gets old.

I skipped my annual mother’s day photos this year because…. life. I had every reason under the sun why I didn’t have time for photos. We had nothing to wear, my hair wasn’t done, I couldn’t be bothered to do my makeup, we are so busy right now I will wait until sport commitments stop..

Then I realised something.

Those are the exact reasons most mums tell me they keep putting photos off too.

There will always be a reason to wait. A busier season. A few extra kilos to lose. A better time. A new outfit. More money. Less chaos.

But our children aren’t waiting.

They’re growing, changing, and becoming more independent right in front of us.

So I put on whatever I could find, did a quick swipe of makeup, and got in the frame.

Because one day these photos won’t remind my children of what I looked like. They’ll remind them that I was there. Loving them, hugging them, laughing with them, and sharing this season of life together.

And that’s worth so much more than perfect hair, perfect outfits, or perfect timing. ❤️

I’ve been doing this for twelve years and there’s one thing I notice at every single session. Mum walks in and the first thing she says is, ‘Sorry if he’s unsettled’ or ‘She didn’t sleep last night, I hope that’s okay.’ Before I’ve even said hello, she’s already apologising. For her baby. For herself. For taking up space.

Nobody tells you that becoming a mother means the whole world shifts its gaze, and sometimes you shift with it. You stop being the main character in your own story because this tiny person needs you to be everything. And mostly that’s beautiful. But sometimes, in the quiet moments, it’s a lot.

I photograph mums because I know what it feels like to want to be seen in that season. Not instead of your baby. Alongside them. If that’s something you’d love, I’d really love to hear from you.
